How to be yourself when the world tells you to be like everyone else...
The idea came to us while watching cormorants, sea ravens as some call them. They looked like the rest of the birds at first glance, but they didn't spend much time in the sky. In fact when they flew, they flew just barely above the water. Then one of them took a dive. When we took our cameras 📷 down to follow them... let me tell you...
These bird's came to life under the water!
They can dive over 100 feet and hold their breath over 2 minutes! They use their wings as rudders, and hunt fish masterfully. These birds defy expectations. Everyone expects them to be like the rest of the birds, but there they are, 100 feet under water, swimming through the kelp forest with the fish.
This sage lesson, this ancient wisdom, Know Thyself, was right there in front of us on vivid display.
At the time, a pandemic had prompted lockdowns in many places around the world, and visiting grandma was starting to feel dangerous, but imagining grandchildren not visiting their grandparents, or loved ones in general, not getting to see each other felt wrong, so we hatched an idea.
What if we could take some of that sage wisdom, put it in a book and invite grandma to read it for their grandkid? Or the grandkid to read it for grandma?
